BBG FOR CCSD BOARD OF EDUCATION

Meet Bierker, Bass & Glukhova

Candidates for Clarkstown School Board

Tamara Bierker, Jason Bass and Yelena Glukhova

Mrs. Tamara Bierker
Board of Education Member (2015-present)

I have been an educator for over 49 years.  I have an extensive background in understanding how an excellent education enriches the long-term achievement of every student. During many years as the Department Chairperson of School Counseling (Guidance) at Felix Festa Middle School, I pushed every student to achieve their academic and emotional potential. I have directed and produced musicals at FFMS for over ten years, placing over one hundred fifty students on stage yearly. Under my direction and leadership on the Middle School Committee, we successfully facilitated the movement from a Junior High School to a Middle School in 1996.

After 9/11, I formed and led the Crisis Team at FFMS until I retired. I have been honored to receive the Life Member Award, Distinguished Service Award, and Outstanding Service Award from FFMS and the Clarkstown Council PTA. In 2015, the West Nyack Rotary awarded me the Outstanding Educator of the Year.

Jason Bass

Active NYPD Lieutenant

There is nothing more sacred than family and community. I have dedicated my entire life to public service, and for the past 17 years, I have had the honor of doing so as a lieutenant with the NYPD. I am a devoted husband to my terrific wife, Jodi, and father to Eric, 7, and Nate, 4. Like all fathers, I want the very best for my children. I know that to succeed in this world, one must be well-rounded. A good education is satisfactory, but an exceptional one is what matters.

I firmly believe in transparency, merit, accountability, responsibility, hard work, and tenacity. I have been advocating for our children since the pandemic to address learning loss and the social-emotional harm that has come to them. We still have a lot of work to do.
I care deeply for our children, as they are the future of our community. I want to see all of them become successful and responsible adults. They deserve the best education CCSD offers, and I am committed to helping them work towards that goal.

Yelena Glukhova
Educational Director

President Ronald Reagan said, “Education doesn’t begin with some isolated bureaucrat … education begins at home, where it is a parental right and responsibility.” As a mom and an educator, I couldn’t hold that statement truer. Being a first-generation immigrant, I was raised with strong family values and high regard for academia. As a product of an American public school education, I was fortunate to experience how meritocracy and hard work can lead to endless possibilities. It is with that understanding that I have dedicated my career to working in inner-city, low-income communities to instill in the youngest of learners that with education, they can succeed beyond circumstance.

As a Clarkstown Board Member, I vow to maintain a transparent relationship with parents and honor their rights as their children’s first teachers. I promise to uphold academic standards so our children can succeed beyond our schools with the merit they acquire here. This is the only way to ensure a solid future for them and Clarkstown.
